Aboriginal Child Language Acquisition Project

About

The Aboriginal Child Language Project is funded by an Australian Research Council Discovery Grant. We are interested in the type of input children receive in multilingual environments that include a traditional language, a contact variety of English and code-mixing between languages and speech styles.

We have been following 5-10 children and their families in 3 communities (2004-2007): Kalkaringi, Tennant Creek and Yakanarra. Additionally Carmel O'Shannessy (MPI, Nijmegen and University of Sydney) has been studying children's acquisition of Light Warlpiri and Warlpiri at Lajamanu.
