Masters of Applied Linguistics - Online delivery

Online Delivery Option from 2008

From Semester 1, 2008, some subjects in the Masters of Applied Linguistics will be offered online in addition to on-campus delivery. From Semester 1, 2009, the entire course will be available online. This change will not affect any student’s ability to be taught face-to-face in a class setting – the entire course will continue to be available on campus for those that prefer this method of delivery.

Benefits of doing the Masters of Applied Linguistics online

Study as you work. No need to take time off from your job. Keep working and do the Masters of Applied Linguistics in your spare time.

Interactive delivery. You will interact with other students and the lecturer frequently through bulletin boards and interactive chats. What’s more, all online subjects run parallel to the on-campus subjects, so you will also interact with current students in Melbourne.

Equivalent to campus mode. The online version of the Masters of Applied Linguistics is the same program as the on-campus version, and the only difference is in the mode of delivery. Entry requirements and subject choices are identical, and all materials and assignments have the same content as in the on-campus version but have been enhanced for distance study. The following on-campus streams (specializations) are also available online:

  • Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL),
  • Language Testing and Language Program Evaluation, and
  • English Language.

Flexible study options. Study as many subjects per semester in the online version as your other commitments allow: you can study as few as one subject and as many as four, depending on your time and availabilit

Which students can opt for online delivery?

The online Masters of Applied Linguistics is available to local and international students as follows:

Local students (Australian citizens / residents & NZ Citizens) can complete the course part-time or full-time in on-campus or online mode. They can also mix delivery modes, e.g., some subjects can be taken on campus and some online.

International students not present in Australia can take the online mode of the course from anywhere outside Australia. They do not require a student visa and can choose to take the course part-time. They must take the entire course online; it is not possible to take one semester online and one semester on campus.

International students present in Australia with an Australian student visa must complete 100 % of their study via the on-campus version of the Masters of Applied Linguistics. They cannot mix online and on-campus subjects.
